their first days

IMG_0601Day Before: So tired and emotional. Both of us. We've been weaning naps, but today he needed one. Going on three hours and I had a hard time waking him up. At first this made me nervous for the next day, the first day when he didn't have the option of crashing at 1:30. But then I realize that God, in his lovingkindness made both Bear and I realize he needed extra rest today.   And I got to snap a pic of that sweet boy sleeping with the sunlight streaming in. Grace upon grace.

We gave him the Dude's alarm clock from when he was in college. It is LOUD. I retired that thing when we got married. But Bear didn't have any trouble jumping out of bed this morning and getting ready for his big day.

Monkey's teacher had a special note with "jitter glitter" to put under her pillow while she slept the night before school. She is absolutely perfect for my girl. At orientation Monkey said, "I can tell this is going to be a great year because the room is so colorful and organized!"

 I think she's ready!

But mom still needed her moment.

Showing off our fresh manicures.

Hugs, high fives, and some super silliness....

...and we're off! The school is about 4 blocks away, so the 3 big kids get to ride bikes while Tiger and I try to keep up.

A first day cinnamon roll to ease the pain. Don't worry Little Dude, you're day is coming.

Just a few short weeks later the Little Dude got to start preschool. It was sheer joy for this kid to follow in his big's footsteps. Actually, most anything is sheer joy for him.

Tiger was not happy that we left his buddy behind.... but he found out it's not so bad hanging solo with mom!

One of my friends has a daughter the same age as this guy, they both started preschool at the same place on the same day, but she is in the afternoon class. While we were gone they snuck over and decorated our door to celebrate the first day! There was even a streamer wall behind the screen door that the Little Dude had to run threw. Actually he kicked threw it like a ninja. It was amazing. We both felt very loved and blessed to have such thoughtful friends!

So those were the first days for us this year. In all honesty, it was really hard for me to send Bear to school... but I'll talk more about that next time.

Thanks for visiting! I hope fall is off to a great start for all of you as well!
