PSS Review {God gives Jacob a Dream}

God gives Jacob a Dream Scripture: Genesis 28:10-22

Age group: 4-5 years old

Focus: God is faithful. He always keeps his promises.

Lesson: Open your classroom Bible to Genesis and quickly review who Jacob was. We talked about how Jacob was a deceiver. He tricked his dad into giving him the inheritance that his older brother rightly deserved. But even though Jacob was sinful, God loved Him. That tells us that God does not love based on good things we do.

Summarize the story from Genesis 28:10-22

  • Jacob was traveling and laid down to sleep because it was getting dark. While he was sleeping God gave him a dream. Have you ever had a dream? {Ask for them to raise their hands but to save specific stories until after the lesson}.
  • In Jacob's dream he saw a tall ladder, all the way up to heaven. Angels were coming and going up and down the ladder. And God was at the top and He started to talk to Jacob.
  • God made Jacob some pretty cool promises about his future and what God would give to Jacob and his family. He told Jacob that they would always be taken care of by God and that they would always have a place to live.
  • Do you know what a promise is? {It is when someone tells you they will do something and they really mean it.}
  • Here is something true about God, He ALWAYS keeps His promises! God told Jacob things He would do for Jacob and his family, and God did them!
  • When God makes a promise, it will definitely happen!

Pray: Thank God that He always keeps his promises.
