Four years ago I was 23 years old. Four years ago I was fresh out of college.
Four years ago I had been married for a year and four months.
Four years ago I had plans for my near future, none of which happened.
Four years ago I was scared, unsure, unprepared.
Four years ago I was blessed beyond measure.
Four years ago I learned to call on the Lord for things I wish I had control over but knew I didn't.
Four years ago I became a mama for the first time.
My sweet Monkey turns four tomorrow. I am so thankful that God has entrusted the raising of her to the Dude and I for the short time that we will be called her parents. When I was four my dad made me promise I would stay that age forever. Now I know why. She is awesome. Her growing mind amazes and excites me every day. I can't wait to see the woman she will become. God willing, I will be there to witness all of the benchmarks of her life. But what I'm interested in remembering are the little things. How she sings songs about everything all day long. How she cannot for the life of her walk in a calm straight line. She is always bouncing, twirling, skipping. How she acts like a little mommy to her brothers, teaching them what we teach her. How she asks so many questions it makes me want to scream, but I don't because I know her curiousity is a picture of her ever growing mind. How she loves Jesus, already. How she is so typically girly. How she is so atypical in many other ways.
Four years ago I never could have imagined what the Lord would teach me and mold me into as a mom. I never could have manufactured the love that I have for her on my own. I am so blessed, so grateful. Thank you Lord, for Monkey.
